ARC Discovery Project 2: Agency and Addiction (1 PhD scholarship available) - 2010079

---

This scholarship is associated with Prof. Jeanette Kennett's project "Addiction, moral identity and moral agency: Integrating theoretical and empirical approaches". The successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of the project but especially in testing and refining philosophical accounts of the elements of moral agency and the effects of addiction on agency, character, self-control and responsibility against the findings and predictions of addiction neuroscience, and our own empirical study of users which will be led by Dr Craig Fry.

Successful applicants will be based at Macquarie University in the Philosophy Department and in association with the Centre for Cognitive Science. Cotutelle and joint PhD candidature supervision arrangements are possible, especially (but not only) with partner universities in France, Germany and the UK.

The scholarship is available to domestic and international applicants who have an Australian Bachelor degree with First Class Honours (or equivalent) in philosophy or a relevant discipline such as psychology. The scholarships offer a tax-free stipend at $22,500 (indexed annually) for a period of 3.5 years (subject to satisfactory progress). Successful applicants will be able to take up their scholarship and commence their studies as soon they have satisfied the admission requirements of Macquarie University.
