PhD Training Programs
Up one levelAt a PhD level, the Research Schools offer various training programs. Below you can find an overview of the dutch Research Schools in the field of cognitive science. For their standard courses and activities, we refer to their websites. Is your Research School missing, please let us know and we will add it here!
Advanced School for Computing and Imaging (ASCI)
ASCI is an acronym for "Advanced School for Computing and Imaging" ASCI is a Dutch graduate school established in 1993 and accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Research groups of Delft University of Technology, Vrije Universiteit, University of Amsterdam, Leiden University, University Utrecht, University of Twente, University of Groningen, Eindhoven Technical University and the Erasmus University Rotterdam participate in ASCI.
Dutch Graduate School in Logic (OzsL)
The aim of the Onderzoeksschool Logika (Dutch Graduate School in Logic) is to guide the development of logic research in the Netherlands in the direction of the vision of logic as a core part of an emerging new science of information processing, and to make sure that the Netherlands will continue to play a prominent role in this development.
Dutch Research School for Information and Knowledge systems (SIKS)
SIKS is the Dutch Research School for Information and Knowledge systems. It was founded in 1996 by researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Databases & Information Systems and Software Engineering. SIKS is an interuniversity research school that comprises 12 research groups in which currently nearly 400 researchers are active, including over 190 Ph.D-students. It's Administrative University is the Free University of Amsterdam. The office of SIKS is located at Utrecht University. SIKS received its accreditation by KNAW in 1998.
Experimental Psychopathology
Members of the postgraduate school conduct scientific research in order to determine mental problems properly, to discover the origin of mental problems and to find out how mental problems can be treated effectively. However, there are a lot of mental health problems and we don’t study them all in EPP. We mainly concentrate on the following problem areas: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, addiction problems, somatoform and sexual disorders, personality disorders and child and adolescence psychopathology.
Experimenteel Psychologische Onderzoekschool (EPOS)
The basic mission of EPOS is to advance the study of cognition, man or machine. The researchers in EPOS are concerned with the question of how information is acquired and represented, how information is understood and communicated, how it is used in the control of action, and how it is stored in the brain. EPOS research groups adopt a variety of methods in the study of cognition, ranging from cognitive-behavioral approaches to formal analysis and model simulations, behavior genetics, neuropsychological methods, and psychophysiological techniques, and brain imaging and stimulation techniques. The multi-disciplinary approach, typical for EPOS, is consistent with recent developments in the study of human cognition.
Graduate School Neurosciences Amsterdam (ONWA)
The Graduate School Neurosciences Amsterdam coordinates the training program of the Ph.D-students participating in the school; organizes courses, lectures, annual meetings in the field of neurosciences; stimulates collaboration in neuroscientific research between the various participating institutes and stimulates improvement of the quality of research and education in the neurosciences
Helmholtz Institute
The Helmholtz Institute is an interfaculty research institute of Utrecht University. The major goals of the Helmholtz Institute are: Stimulation and coordination of scientific research in the field of perception and motor behaviour at the intersections of biology, medicine, physics and psychology; Acquisition of funds for the financing of research and Enforcement of the position of the Institute by collaborating with other (inter)-national institutes.
Institute for the Study of Education and Human Development (ISED)
The Institute for the Study of Education and Human Development (ISED) is an inter-university, national research institute that conducts research on the education and development of children and adolescents from birth through young adulthood. The term "education" is used here in a broad (European) sense to refer to both in-school instruction and socialization and out-of-school childrearing and socialization. In addition to being a research center, ISED is a graduate school where PhD students receive training and prepare doctoral dissertations in the area of education and human development.
Interuniversity Centre for Educational Research (ICO)
The general mission of ICO is to advance scientific theories for understanding processes and systems of learning and instruction. Research within ICO primarily has an empirical character. The goal of optimizing learning and instruction within ICO has consequences for the research methods used. Along with traditional controlled (laboratory) experimental studies, ICO will make use of and works on the further improvement of more qualitative research methods such as design research.
Interuniversity Graduate School of Psychometrics and Sociometrics (IOPS)
The Interuniversity Graduate School of Psychometrics and Sociometrics (IOPS) was officially founded on June 24th, 1987 as an institute for the advanced dissertation training in psychometrics and sociometrics; it also coordinates the high-quality research in this area. The institute received a starting subsidy of the Ministry of Education for a period of five years.
